The reason for optimisation on the image would be that I wanted to deliver a high - quality image yet keep the smallest file size possible. In order to decrease file size, optimisation is required because in comparison to written content images are generally larger files thus images used without optimisation can slow down the website which is turn could repel visitors from going on the site. Visitors expect the website to load as fast as possible. Compressing and optimising the images will make sure the page loads fast and smoothly therefore improving the users experience.
If I had problems with image optimisation I would look at a few things that could be the cause. I would make sure that the number of bytes the file has is not too high. If the file size is very big, it can be an indicator that either the resolution is too high or the image dimensions are too large. A resolution between 72 PPI and 120 PPI would do for majority of screens. I would also check the dimensions of the image in pixels and make sure that I have saved it correctly. I currently use illustrator which conveniently has options available to save my images as web friendly.
